Join us for the Langara College Community lecture series. Presented by current and retired Langara faculty, the March 6 lecture is by Roger Holdstock.

While Canadian cinema has a strong reputation abroad, Canadians themselves give it little attention. It is mostly through film festivals that the odd Canadian becomes aware of our film culture. One of the strengths and distinctions of Canadian film is its engagement with social and political issues. From "The Corporation" to "Incendies", Canadians have produced films engaged with the issues of their times and have shown the need for social action.

Celebrated textile artist Bettina Matzkun's work spans topics such as WW2, navigating, map history and sail construction. She will speak about making effective use of the library -books, databases, maps and staff- as a source for research, inspiration and information to form and organize content for craft creation.  Not just for craft artists, anyone interested in creative arts wanting to tell a story can benefit and learn about this often overlooked source of creative inspiration.

Bettina Matzkuhn has worked in textiles for over 30 years with an emphasis on embroidery and fabric collage.  She holds a BFA in Visual Arts and an MA in Liberal Studies from Simon Fraser University.  In the 1980s she animated and directed three award-winning films using textiles for the National Film Board of Canada. An interest in narrative continues to inform her work. She exhibits her work nationally and internationally and gives talks and workshops in conjunction with her exhibits.  Matzkuhn also writes professionally on the arts and teaches as a sessional instructor at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

Depression is one of the most significant public health challenges in Canada. It is, by some measures, the single largest cause of long-term disability in the country. But what is it, exactly?  What causes it?  Is it really just a biochemical imbalance? And, most importantly, how do we treat it? What can someone do on their own to prevent or help overcome the problem? In this talk psychologist and author Dr Randy Paterson sheds light on a complex disorder, and on some basic self-care strategies that turn out to be surprisingly potent.

Date of event Tomorrow, Feb 3rd at 7 PM
Location of event on UBC Campus

Is there REALLY a GOD? How can I know for sure?

Come to a free Lecture to find out for yourself. Held at Carey College (Main Entrance) 5920 Iona Drive, on UBC Campus.

Sunday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m.

We will explore the evidence for the existence of God.

Evolutionists would have us believe that they have proven that all things have evolved and there is no need for a god to have created us. This could not be farther from the truth.

In this seminar, we will explore four universally accepted Scientific Laws that make evolution impossible and show that there has to be a very intelligent and powerful Creator.

Presented by St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Mission in Vancouver. For more information: see our web site at stpaulvernon.org

Everyone welcome!
Wheelchair accessible.
