Please join authors Kate Braid, Marilyn Bowering, Sandra Djwa and Kathy Mezei as they present their recent work.

Since women started working in the trades in the 1970s, very little has been published about their experiences. Award-winning author Kate Braid reads from her memoir Journeywoman: Swinging a Hammer in a Man’s World, the groundbreaking story of how she became a carpenter in the face of skepticism and discouragement, finding success in a male-dominated field.

Through evocative storytelling and stylish prose, Marilyn Bowering’s new collection Soul Mouth explores the story of childhood and the development of observation, sexuality, and spirituality through their connections to the animal world and nature. Marilyn Bowering is an award-winning novelist, poet and playwright.

Sandra Djwa reads from Journey With No Maps: A Life of PK Page, the first biography of P.K. Page, a brilliant twentieth-century poet and a fine artist. The product of over a decade's research and writing, this book is both the captivating story of a remarkable woman and a major contribution to the study of Canada's literary and artistic history. Sandra Djwa is an award-winning author, biographer and editor.

Kathy Mezei reads selections from the anthology, A Domestic Space Reader.  Domestic spaces play an immense role in our cultural consciousness. The Domestic Space Reader addresses our collective fascination with houses and homes by providing the first comprehensive survey of the concept across time, cultures, and disciplines.

Is there REALLY a GOD? How can I know for sure?

Come to a free Lecture to find out for yourself. Held at Carey College (Main Entrance) 5920 Iona Drive, on UBC Campus.

Sunday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m.

We will explore the evidence for the existence of God.

Evolutionists would have us believe that they have proven that all things have evolved and there is no need for a god to have created us. This could not be farther from the truth.

In this seminar, we will explore four universally accepted Scientific Laws that make evolution impossible and show that there has to be a very intelligent and powerful Creator.

Presented by St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Mission in Vancouver. For more information: see our web site at stpaulvernon.org

Everyone welcome!
Wheelchair accessible.

“ANITA'S REVOLUTION”

Friday January 25
7pm
Joe’s Café ~ large north hall
1150 Commercial Dr. (at William St.)
Vancouver, Canada

One of the greatest achievements of the Cuban Revolution was to
eliminate illiteracy, which was accomplished just two years after the
triumph of the Cuban Revolution. Vancouver Communities in Solidarity
with Cuba (VCSC) invites you to a special evening with acclaimed
author Shirley Langer about her novel “Anita’s Revolution”.

>> About ANITA’S REVOLUTION:

“Fidel Castro announced before the United Nations in 1960 that Cuba
would be “a territory free from illiteracy” by the end of 1961. How
Cuba achieved that goal is what Anita’s Revolution is about. Cuba
called upon its young people to volunteer to become teachers, and more
than 100,000 of them answered the call. It was to be the adventure of
their lives!”

Who is Anita? What was her adventure? Why did she become a volunteer?
Why did more than 100,000 like her become volunteers? What challenges
and dangers did these youth face? How did their heroic effort change
the future of Cuba?

“Anita’s Revolution is a tribute to the potential and spirit of youth.”

“ANITA'S REVOLUTION”
(La Revolución de Anita)

Viernes, 25 de enero
7pm
Joe’s Café ~ large north hall
1150 Commercial Dr. (at William St.)
Vancouver, Canada

President Hugo Chavez as well as for the Bolivarian Revolution.

After another decisive win by Hugo Chavez in the recent Venezuelan

Bolivarian Revolution and set back the huge gains made by poor and
working people since Chavez was first elected in 1998.
