Join us during an evening for poetry lovers with award-winning writers John BartonNicole Brossard and Catherine Owen.

John Barton reads from his tenth book, For the Boy with the Eyes of the Virgin, a retrospective collection that explores the role of love in contemporary society, the complexity of gay experience, the persistence of homophobia, the reinvention of the idea of family, and the fear and courage that AIDS engendered and how it continues to shape the search and attainment of intimacy. John Barton has won three Archibald Lampman Awards, a Patricia Hackett, an Ottawa Book Award, a CBC Literary Award and a National Magazine Award.

White Piano is Nicole Brossard’s latest poetry collection. A play of resonance between pronouns and persons, freely percussive between prose and poetry, and narrating a constellation of questions, White Piano offers readers a “language that cultivates its own craters of fire and savoir-vie.” Nicole Brossard has won two Governor General’s Awards for poetry as well as Le Prix Athanase-David and the Canada Council’s Molson Prize.

Catherine Owen reads from her most recent collection, Trobairitz. Twenty-first century metalheads; twelfth century troubadours and their female counterparts, the trobairitz – what could they possibly have in common? The creation of an often misunderstood and at times reviled genre for one; for another, a kin preoccupation with the questioning of structures set up by class, gender, and religion. Her previous book of poetry, Frenzy, won the Alberta Literary Award in 2009.

Free admission. Seating is limited.
