Obakki Foundation’s BEHIND THE LENS fundraiser and photography exhibition is being held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. at Vancouver Urban Winery, 55 Dunlevy Avenue, in Vancouver. One hundred per cent of event proceeds will go towards building a water well in South Sudan that will help thousands of people in need. Treana Peake, Founder and Creative Director of Obakki Foundation, will unveil her personal “field photography” collection and share her behind-the-scenes experiences working in South Sudan. There will be acoustic performances by special musical guests. Canapés and wine will be served. Tickets are $150 per person and are available at: http://bit.ly/BEHINDTHELENS.

Babysitting in a Day is an interactive and fun course that teaches youth aged 11 to 15 years the business of babysitting. Learn the responsibilities of a babysitter, how to get along and care for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children, and how to handle emergencies and provide first aid.

Cost: $55 (includes the Canadian Red Cross Babysitter’s Manual & Babysitter wallet card and wall certificate).

Courses: Saturday, July 6; Friday, July 12; Saturday, July 20; Friday, July 26; Saturday, August 3; Tuesday, August 27; and Wednesday, August 28, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm at St. Andrew’s United Church1044 St. George’s Avenue in North Vancouver.

The support group also provides a valuable and safe forum for patients to connect with one another, share their experiences and ask questions about their individual concerns.

He resolves to put his foot down once and for all – but Serpina knows just what her "master" is up to, and she's not going to stand it for a moment! Enjoy Pergolesi's wildest comic romp, presented by the dynamic new opera company whose shows have been hailed as "a stroke of genius" (The Voice)! The performances will be accompanied by baroque chamber orchestra, and the opera will be preceded each night by a concert of Handel favourites.

A team of over 50 cyclists including Canucks Alumni will participate in the 7th annual 200km Ride4Hope in support of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. The event begins at Memorial Park in Hope at 8:30am, with stops at London Drugs locations in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, and South Surrey. Ride participants and Canucks Alumni will be joined by Canucks mascot, Fin, at the Ride4Hope finish line at Morgan Crossing London Drugs in South Surrey for a fundraising barbeque from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

London Drugs customers are invited to come and meet Canucks Alumni, and members of Team Zinetti, and support their efforts to raise funds for Canucks for Kids Fund benefitting Canuck Place.

ViVace presents Wagner's first opera of Der Ring des Nibelungen, Das Rheingold in its entirety in concert version with musical director Luke Housner at the piano. The casts are a fine blend of local talent mixed with young professionals visiting from New York, Ohio, Georgia, Texas, South Carolina, California, Washington.

This is Mr. Housner's 5th year of musically directing Concert Operas in Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto and Portland, OR. 

Wagner's Das Rheingold depicts a power struggle between gods and mortals over a magic ring, starts with the power thirsty dwarf Alberich forging a ring of unimaginable power from gold pilfered from the Rhein.

Sung in German with English Subtitles.
