What are the requirements to reset a password?

ANSWER
For Individuals:
  • A picture ID for walk-in clients, and
  • Their birthday and mother’s maiden name
Note:
  • Password resets take into effect after 6PM.
For Groups:
  • A signed letter on the group’s letterhead from the authorized person of the organization. The letter must state the following:
    • The full name of the group and their login id
    • They are the authorized group contact for their VCN account
    • They are writing to request a password reset
    • A phone number where they can be reached to establish their identity
    • and their preferred password
Note:
  • The letter can be sent by Fax to us at 1-855-299-0647.
  • The sys-administrator will call the client when tne letter is received.
  • It can take 3 to 5 business days for the password to come into effect.
  • Password resets take into effect after 6PM.

How do I request additional VCN account for my organization?

ANSWER
  1. Complete the online application form for each individual account.
    • For each email account, use an enumeration of the group’s main login for each account’s login (ie if your group’s main login is cup, use ‘cup1’, ‘cup2’, etc, as the login id).
    • For the address, use the organization’s address.
  2. Print out the Letter of Agreement and make sure one of the group’s representatives fills it out.
  3. Fax or mail in the Letter of Agreement to Vancouver Community Network.

How do individuals/groups request for a VCN account?

ANSWER
  1. Complete the online application form.
    This step is only to create the dial up, email and web space.
  2. Verify their account by asking for:
    • a picture ID in person or
    • mailing a cheque

     

    NOTE:
    • For groups, make sure the the contact’s name shown in putty matches the group’s representative’s ID or cheque.
    • Verifying the account enables the dial up and sending email by activating their PPP account.

Troubleshooting VCN Account

VCN account access issue

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

Customer reports that they are unable to access their VCN email or the internet using VCN dial up.

CAUSE OF ISSUE
  • The VCN account is validated as TEXT
  • The customer is not using the correct login ID
  • The customer forgot their passworf
SOLUTION
  • Ask the user for their name, VCN email account or login ID to verify that status of their account or if they are indeed registered in our system using putty
  • users who are having issues with their dial up access, login to putty and verify that their account has PPP access
  • For users who are having issues logging into Dial up or email, make sure that they are using the correct login ID (their email without the @vcn.bc.ca)
  • If they are still unable to login despite using the correct login ID, get confirmation from the user to reset their password.
  • If this does not resolve the issue, escalate to a senior staff
