With more than 100 brothels operating in the city’s east end in 1930s Vancouver was once a haven for bawdy houses. In the 1970s, the city’s West End emerged as home to an outdoor sex workers’ stroll, who were expelled by 1984. Further displacement started an era of missing and murdered women.
