Vancouver CommunityNet Board Meeting April 21, 1998 Present: Penny Goldsmith, Larry Kuehn, Richard Songhurst, Sujay Nazareth, Robert Sanzalone, Lyle Gardiner, Darlene McBain, Greg Sturk Guests: Melissa Isaac and Jason Mireau (SFU Students) Staff: Carolyn Nantais, Jason Currell, Peter Royce 1. Agenda. M/S/C That the agenda be adopted. 2. Speaker's kit. Melissa and Jason, from an SFU course, presented the material they had developed for board members to use in presentations about the Vancouver CommunityNet. 3. Minutes. M/S/C That the minutes of the March 17, 1998 meeting be adopted. 4. Staff reports. Carolyn Nantais reported on the work she is doing in organizing the office files and systems. Peter Royce provided information on a number of projects that are underway, including "Job Seekers." Jason Currell reported on issues related to security and new phone lines. 5. Cash position. It was reported that the current cash position is $67,897.48. 6. Current projects. A. Fundraising. Darlene reported on plans for outreach for fundraising for new equipment. B. Outreach. Robert reported on the outreach event at the Joe Fortes Library. Lyle indicated that Kits library branch has requested a similar event. Tables at other events are possible as well. Sujay was at a computer show in Surrey, where purchasers of low end computers were referred to the VCN table. C. Consultation grant. The meetings with the consultant for planning are scheduled for *Tuesday, May 26, 5:45-9 pm *Tuesday, June 2, 5:45-9 pm *Saturday, June 6, 10 am-4 pm D. Security policy. Richard is working on a draft of the security policy to come to the next meeting. E. Communities Connect conference. It was agreed that Jason, Sujay, Robert, Richard, Greg, and Peter would attend. Penny will be there as an executive member of the BCCNA. The VCN will pay the registration of $45 for people in addition to those subsidized through BCCNA. 7. Next meeting. The next meeting is May 19 at 6:30 at 411 Dunsmuir.
