Vancouver CommunityNet Board Minutes January 21, 1997 Present: Penny Goldsmith, Larry Kuehn, Greg Sturk, Neil K. Guy, Ryan Hung, Katharine Shipley, Carolyn Saunders. 1. The meeting was called to order by Penny Goldsmith at 6:35. 2. M/S/C. That the agenda be adopted. 3. M/S/C. That the minutes of December 17, 1997, be approved. 4. The financial statement ending December 31, 1996 was provided to the meeting. 5. M/S/C. That the resignation of Ann Travers from the board be approved. M/S/C. That Lily Fu be appointed to the board as treasurer. 6. Status as a charity. The Vancouver CommunityNet has now received the documentation from the federal government awarding it charitable tax status. M/S/C. That the Vancouver CommunityNet give tax receipts for donations and memberships in the amount of $25 or more. M/S/C. That the VCN continue to provide free email and text-only access to the Web. M/S/C. That the VCN may charge for value-added services and no charitable tax receipts will be offered for the fees levied for these services. 7. Committee reports. Work with information providers is ongoing. Several grant proposals have been submitted. Freeport has now been deleted and only the new system is in place. >From 20 to 25% of users are from public access sites and public library sites during hours that they are open. 8.
