VCN Online AGM May 19, 2022 at 5:30pm

Hello VCN members and guests!

This is your notice for VCN’s Annual General Meeting.  Please join us!

When: at 5:30 pm (start joining at 5:00pm) on Thursday, May 19, 2022
Where: Online or by phone using Zoom

VCN members will receive a Zoom registration link in another email. If you do not receive your meeting registration link by Friday, May 6th, please email us at [email protected] or call 778-724-0826.

If you have not already renewed your membership, please renew it by mailing a cheque or donating online. Please let us know if you plan to mail a cheque or if you will be donating late so we can send the meeting invitation to you.
The membership cost is $15.00 per year.
As always, if you pay $25 or more, we are able to issue a Charitable Tax receipt.

An informal discussion after the business of the AGM is open for member’s information, feedback and direction.

While the board and staff will make it a priority to answer every question, we will only have time to fully discuss the top few questions sent or submitted at registration.

Scheduled power outage Mar 12-13

Starting on Saturday March 12, 2022 at night to Sunday, March 13, 2022 in the morning, the building where some of VCN servers are located will be without power. This is a scheduled annual power maintenance.

VCN client emails will be offline.
Some web sites will be offline.

Everything else will remain online.
Dial-up will be online.
Newer web sites that were setup recently or were migrated to a new server will remain online.
VCN office emails and phones will be online.
Emails to VCN clients will be queued up on our backup server and will be delivered once power is restored.

VCN unscheduled power outage

Starting on Saturday, January 8th, 2022 at 7:30pm, there was an unscheduled power outage and some VCN servers went offline.

VCN client emails and some web sites were down.

Some web sites and dial-up were not affected.

All help desk systems including email were still working.

On Sunday, January 9th, 2022 around 9am, powered was restored and the servers were brought online. Most services were restored except Squirrelmail/webmail.

Squirrelmail/webmail had an issue that was temporarily fixed on Monday, January 10th, 2022 at 10am. In order, to get webmail working, email blocking was disabled.

VCN will be closed on the following days:

VCN will be open Tuesday, December 28th to 31st and Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 at 10am for support by phone and email.

VCN will be closed on Thursday, November 11th. VCN will open on Friday, November 12th at 10am for support by phone, email, and remote desktop.

VCN closed Thurs Sept 30th

VCN will be closed on Thursday, September 30th for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. VCN will open on Friday, October 1st at 10am for assistance by email at [email protected] and phone at 778-724-0826.

Dial-up Maintenance Tues Oct 12th

Update: Due to an issue outside of VCN’s control, the phone numbers will be moved on Tuesday, October 12th.

Here’s a list of VCN’s dial-up phone numbers.
New number: 778-300-1879
Old number: 604-638-0189

VCN’s current dial-up phone numbers will be moved on Wednesday, October 6th, 2021.
Dial-up will be unavailable when the phone numbers are being moved.

We recommend that you write down the new dial-up number, 778-300-1879, and use it if there are any issues. You may also start using 778-300-1879 now to avoid any issues during the maintenance.

If you have any issue please call 778-724-0826 Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm for assistance.

VCN phones down Friday Sept 17

Sept 23th update: Please leave a voicemail on our backup phone number at 778-900-0826 for a call back. You may receive a call back from a different phone number.

Sept 17th update: The attacks are continuing so phone service will go up and down. Our phone provider is currently working on resolving the issue.

Update: VCN’s phones started to work Thursday, September 16th around noon.

VCN’s phone provider is being attacked. They’re currently fixing the issue.

VCN’s help desk phone number, 778-724-0826, will be down. The phone will ring but no one can pick up the call and you won’t be able to leave a voicemail. In the meantime, please email the help desk at [email protected]. VCN’s other phone numbers will also be down.

Dial-up phone numbers are not affected by this issue and will continue to work.

VCN will be closed on Monday, September 6, 2021. VCN will be open on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 for support by phone at 778-724-0826 and email at [email protected].

Sending VCN emails with any Internet provider

We are currently aware of issues sending out VCN emails with Telus and Shaw customers. You are no longer allowed to use Telus or Shaw’s email servers for another email addresses.

You can send out emails using your VCN account from any Internet provider. This service can be used if you have issues with any Internet provider or even if you don’t have any current issues.

To send out emails using your @vcn.bc.ca email account. You will need to activate the service with VCN. You can call the help desk at 778-724-0826 or fill out this form. Once the account is activated you will get a call back or an email.

VCN’s outgoing email service is smtp.vcn.bc.ca or out.vcn.bc.ca.

The port is 587.

Logging in or authentication is required.

Encryption or also called SSL, TLS, or STARTTLS is required.

Do not enabled SPA or Secure Password Authentication.
Use “Normal Password” password when it’s available.
