Established in 1999, Nunavut is Canada's most recent territory. With a population of about 32,000, Nunavut is both the least populous and the largest in area of the provinces and territories of Canada. Langara College is working in partnership with the government of Nunavut to deliver an innovative educational program for School Community Counsellors (Illinniarvimmi Inuusilirjii). School Community Counsellors play a unique and pivotal role in supporting students to stay in school in small, isolated northern communties.

The Taking Action: Langara College Community Lecture series is presented by current and retired Langara faculty.

Spanning the planet from Tokyo’s Electric Town to Desolation Sound, British Columbia, and connected by the great Pacific gyres, A Tale for the Time Being tells the story of a washed up diary, concealed in a Hello Kitty lunchbox, and the profound effect it has on the woman who discovers it.

Ruth Ozeki is the author of the award-winning novel My Year of Meats and her book All Over Creation was the recipient of a 2004 American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation, as well as the Willa Literary Award for Contemporary Fiction.

Safar/Voyage: Contemporary Works of Arab, Iranian and Turkish Artists opens at the UBC Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver on April 20, 2013. The exhibition brings together sixteen major international artists to reflect upon migration, war, geopolitics, and aesthetics. Although the west coast of Canada may seem worlds apart from the issues, cultures, and artistic practices of Arab, Iranian, and Turkish artists, their connection to ideas of migration, immigration, land rights and the importance of place resonates as much here in Vancouver as it does elsewhere in the world.

In this talk, MOA Coordinating Curator Dr. Jill Baird, Curator, Education and Public Programs speaks to the process of creating Safar/Voyage, from conception to opening.

The 411 Seniors Centre Society, a resource and drop in center for seniors is holding its Annual Free Income Tax Clinic from March 1, 2013 to April 30, 2013, Monday through Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

The clinic is being held at #704 – 333 Terminal Ave, Vancouver, one block east of the Main Street/Chinatown Skytrain station. This “one on one” service geared for seniors and people with disabilities is run by trained volunteers, many of whom have a background in accounting and mostly are seniors helping seniors. 

Please see us to have your taxes done if: You are aged 55 years or older or receive a disability pension - Your 2012 income is less than $30,000/individual or $40,000/couple - Your return is simple – we do not complete taxes which involve rental income, self-employment income, complex stocks, bonds or dividends - We do not complete taxes for the deceased - Your interest income is less than $1,000
