March Forth is a remarkable story of love, told in two voices. Trevor Greene, a journalist and reservist in the Canadian Army had been deployed to Kandahar in 2006. While meeting with village elders in a remote Kandahar Province, Greene removed his helmet out of respect and without warning a teenage boy under the influence of the Taliban came up behind and swung a rusty axe deep into his skull. Trevor’s fiancée, Debbie, was initially told that he would not survive; after years of rehabilitation with Debbie at his side Trevor learned to talk and move again. These three notable events which debated and discussed the importance of the Cuban revolution and the Cuba solidarity movement worldwide from the point of view of activists and revolutionaries, were the only of their kind in Canada. We are pleased that in the last three years we have brought out more than 1,200 people, 30 speakers, and 25 different subjects surrounding the Cuban revolution and its internal and external dynamics. The 2011 conference, coming up November 11-12 will be no different. Entitled, “CUBA TODAY: The Gains & Challenges” this conference will feature many important guests, including our honoured guest for the second year in a row, Dr. Aleida Guevara, Cuban Leader, Prominent Author and Daughter of Legendary Revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara. This volume represents the culmination of his life as a folk historian, someone who was obsessed and delighted by all things Vancouver, and of his immense contribution to historical knowledge of the city of Vancouver.
