Bedbugs hide in cracks and crevices of the rental unit, and it may take upto $1000 to thermal treat a one bedroom apartment and uptp six hours to kill every insect, egg and larva.
It takes time to prepare units for treatment and the best way is to avoid bedbugs all together by checking the online registry prior to moving into a building at:

Your landlord should pay for treatment as part of their maintenance obligations and to prevent other units from infestation.  Please do not withhold rent if you think the landlord owes you for damages.  You will have to seek a decision from the Residential Tenancy Branch, and you must show negligence exist if seeking damages.  The City of Vancouver bylaws states that treatment in a multi-unit residential building must be applied by a licensed pest control operator only.
